THE DEFORESTATION’S DAMAGES
The plants help to preserve the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (thanks to the photosynthesis). The fossil fuels’ utilization and the deforestation are causing a CO2 increasing in the atmosphere, which influences the greenhouse and the global warming. The negative consequences for the deforestation are a lot and they can be:
• biodiversity loss;
• absorption of carbon dioxide and release oxygen;
• greenhouse gases;
• desertification in dry areas;
• erosion, landslides and mudslides in the rainy and hilly lands,
• pollution of aquatic ecosystems
• diversion of resources for indigenous peoples.
The deforestation is the result of the tree’s removal or of their death. There are a lot of causes about this, which can change from a slow forest degradation to sudden fire and intensive pasturage activity.
17 million hectare of tropical forests disappear every year.
Million hectare of tropical forest have been burning since 1960 in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and USA to make place for the pastures for cattle. We can think that every hamburger involves the dejection and the transformation to pasture of six square meters of forest, for make an idea about the problem’s size. This land isn’t suitable for the pasture: the surface layer has a few nourishment in the tropical ecosystem and it’s very thin and fragile. After a few years of pasture the soil becomes sterile and the breeders continue to break down another forest. The trees aren’t commercialized, they’re burned on the spot. The half of pluvial forest of the central and south America has been broken down for the breeding and its rhythm is growing up.

•
Between 1997 and 2006 there was an
increase of 60% of exported beef and the increase of bovine population has been
for the 80% in the Amazon rainforest.
• In 2003 there was a growing of 40% of deforestation among previous year.
• In 10 years the region has lost an area as big as Portugal. A lot of its has became land for pasture.
While the pluvial’s forest deforestation has attired the public opinion’s attention, the tropical forest are disappearing fast. The deforestated areas are becoming outflow shallow aquifer areas instead of catching the precipitations which are filtrated by the subsoil. The woods and the forests are important ecosystems with an elevated biodiversity where a lot of species live. They have a wonderful aesthetic, natural and cultural beauty.
The deforestation involves the loss of these values, of forest’s respect and of the environment.
